Oyin is the Yoruba word for Honey, a natural humectant and wonderfully nourishing ingredient in natural hair and skin care. It also stands for the principles of sweetness, joy, and love -- effects we seek to inspire in our customers' daily acts of self-care.

Our vegan products are: The Juices, Grand Poo Bar, Hair Dew, Oh My Glide, Ginger-Mint CoWash, Funk Butter, AfterBath Oil, GoTea, The Sugar Pomades, NoAshAtAll and Cocoa Creme lotions, and Whipped Shea Butter.

Almost all of our ingredients are vegetable-derived, but we do use our namesake ingredient honey in many of our goodies. One or two products like our lip balm also contain beeswax, or like our Honey Hemp conditioner, silk protein. Each product page contains a full ingredients list.

All of our products are people tested and cruelty free, and the honey we use is food-grade, regionally produced, and true source certified.

Yes! Oyin products are gentle enough for the whole family. They are natural, nourishing, and made with food-grade ingredients; many of our customers -- and our founders! -- use them on their newborns or small children. Of course the normal caveats for allergies apply; children and adults with sensitive skin or allergies should patch-test in a small area of skin first to make sure there's no reaction.

Some of our products contain phthalate-free synthetic fragrance (like Hair Dew or Whipped Pudding), some contain essential oils only (like Greg Juice), some contain a blend (like Black Cedar Fig funk butter, Ginger-Mint Co-Wash, or Honey Hemp Conditioner). The synthetic or blended fragrance oils we use are cosmetic grade, used within their recommended safety levels, and phthalate free.

We offer unscented versions of our HoneyWash shampoo, Honey Hemp conditioner, Hair Dew leave-in lotion, seasonal Whipped Shea blended butter, Afterbath blended body oil, and Funk Butter natural deodorant.

Preservatives & Shelf Life: Oyin Handmade strives to be as gentle and natural as possible in our choices of preservative systems.

To protect our products and our customers from bacteria and spoilage we utilize paraben-free broad-spectrum cosmetic preservatives which are globally approved and naturally derived when possible.

To achieve shelf life of 12-24 months across our catalog, our products are protected with one or more of the following preservative systems; details are on specific product pages:

• Citric acid
• Potassium sorbate
• Phenoxyethanol and propylene glycol
• Gluconolactone and sodium benzoate (ECOCERT)
  

There is a small amount of fluctuation possible from batch to batch when dealing with handmade & natural products. Our products use a very high percentage of natural ingredients which can embody slight variation from batch to batch or season to season. This in turn can slightly change the outcome of a formula, even if made exactly the same way.

Please rest assured that we and all of our suppliers always work to bring you the best quality ingredients and products possible, and that our recipes are always cooked/blended/mixed up with love and meticulous care.
